At the initiative of Turan Sadigi, chairman of the Azerbaijani Community in Italy, information about the January 20 tragedy was published on the official website of the Florence city commune.
According to the report, during a meeting with the Azerbaijani community, Turan Sadigi told the leadership of the city commune that on the night of January 19-20, 1990, the Soviet army suppressed civil demonstrations in Baku with massacres, killing hundreds of civilians, including Ilham-Fariza.
He noted that along being the tragedy, the most painful night in our history gave our people an independent future. Despite the injustices and massacres, our people have always been enthusiastic about for freedom and have never stopped fighting to get rid of the communist regime.
