Our compatriots living in Belgium commemorated the martyrs of January 20

A commemorative ceremony dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held at the initiative head of the Azerbaijan-Belgium Friendship Society Ayhan Demirchi.
The event was attended by employees of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, our diaspora activists living in Belgium and the Netherlands, journalists and researchers from Azerbaijan.
The event, moderated by journalist living in Belgium Huseyin Donmez, was addressed by journalist living in the Netherlands Vugar Abbasov, member of the Belgium-Azerbaijan Culture Center Ilkin Huseynzade, former head of the Ghent Turkish Hearth Tunjer Sari, head of the Azerbaijan-Belgium Friendship Society Ayhan Demirchi, editor-in-chief of “Birlik” magazine Ilgar İlkin from Azerbaijan, researcher Elnur Elturk and journalist Vafa Faraj.
The speakers spoke about the events that led to the tragedy of January 20, which became a symbol of the struggle for independence of our country, the breaking of the information blockade, the invaluable services of national leader Heydar Aliyev in bringing the truth to the attention of the world community and giving a political and legal assessment to the tragedy. It was noted that the January 20 tragedy was not only a National Day of Mourning, but also a heroic chronicle of the unshakable will of our people.
